Run, Walk on November 4th to Benefit Special Olympics Broward County

FORT LAUDERDALE/DAVIE, FLA. – Hundreds of runners and walkers will come to NSU to participate in the Annual Sallarulo’s Race for Champions, scheduled for next Saturday, November 4, at 8 a.m. This USATF certified 5K race benefits Special Olympics Broward County. The run starts in front of NSU’s Alvin Sherman Library.

Faculty, staff and students who sign up to run or walk with the NSU team will have the $25 per person fee WAIVED. All registered participants will receive a free t-shirt and gift bag.  You can also choose to create your own fund raising page to help support Special Olympics.

Following the race, Special Olympics Florida – Broward County’s athletes, their families and all race participants are invited to an awards ceremony and the Carnival of Champions, featuring surprise celebrity guests, refreshments and entertainment.

NSU is the only private university in the country with a local Special Olympics chapter on its campus, now permanently housed in the NSU University School sports center.  NSU Board of Trustee member Paul Sallarulo serves as Chairman of Special Olympics Florida – Broward County. The university’s partnership with Special Olympics was made possible by the late Don Taft, who was an avid supporter of special-needs children and young adult throughout his lifetime.

All proceeds from the race will benefit Special Olympics Florida –Broward County, whose mission is to provide year-round sports trainings and athletic competitions for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
