Renowned Expert in Emergent Technologies in Social Research, Named Opening Plenary Speaker at Fourth Annual Qualitative Report Conference
Nova Southeastern University (NSU), a recognized leader in innovative higher education solutions, announced Sharlene Janice Nagy Hesse-Biber, Ph.D. will deliver the opening plenary address at the Fourth Annual Qualitative Report Conference to be held January 18-19, 2013 on the university’s main campus. In her speech, Hesse-Biber will share her insights how the latest technological developments are changing the practice of qualitative research today.
Hesse-Biber is Professor of Sociology and the Director of Women’s Studies & Gender Studies Program at Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts. She has written widely on methodological and methods issues, including the role of technology and emergent methods in social research. She is the editor of the Handbook of Emergent Technologies in Social Research (Oxford University Press, 2011), co-editor of Emergent Methods in Social Research (Sage, 2006) and Handbook of Emergent Methods (Guilford, 2008), author of Mixed Methods Research: Merging Theory with Practice (Guilford, 2010), and co-author of The Practice of Qualitative Research (2nd Edition, Sage Publications, 2010). Professor Hesse-Biber is co-developer of the software program HyperRESEARCH, a computer-assisted program for analyzing qualitative data, and the new transcription tool HyperTRANSCRIBE.
The Qualitative Report (TQR) Annual Conferences are the only regularly scheduled international qualitative research meetings held in Florida. The theme for the Fourth Conference is “Qualitative Research and Technology” so presentations will feature works of and on qualitative inquiry that exemplify the presence of technology in life and in research about this technology-infused state-of-living. Paper, panel, and poster proposals will be accepted until May 7, 2012.
Besides hosting an annual qualitative research conference each January, Nova Southeastern University also publishes The Qualitative Report, the world’s first weekly online qualitative research journal, and offers an online graduate certificate in qualitative research.
