Recycled Art on Display at the MEEC
Beach clean ups. Have you ever wondered what happens to the stuff we’ve collected? While most of it ends up in the trash, some end up as art! Examples of this can be found at the Marine Environmental Education Center (MEEC) in Hollywood, Florida.
As part of its mission is marine education, the MEEC is hosting art created by Free Our Seas and Beyond (freeourseas.org). The art was created from Hollywood Beach clean-ups. The “Flip Flop Grouper” was made of 200 flip flops, 200 straws, 3 diving fins, 1 dive bag, 1 pool noodle, and a host of other plastic items collected as beach trash. Other art installations include a tire snake and plastic bag jellyfish.
A partnership between Broward County Parks and Recreation and Nova Southeastern University, the MEEC is open to the general public on Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM. https://cnso.nova.edu/carpenter-house-meec/index.html
