Pharmacy Alumni Receives Award for Innovative Pharmacy Practice

Allen Nichol, OPA recipient of the 2010 Innovative Pharmacy Practice Award.

Allen Nichol, R.Ph., Pharm.D., NSU College of Pharmacy alumni (Class of 1993) is the Ohio Pharmacists Association (OPA) recipient of the 2010 Innovative Pharmacy Practice Award. This award honors pharmacists who have demonstrated innovative pharmacy practice resulting in improved patient care by providing effective patient counseling.

Nichol has been recognized by American Druggist Magazine as “a visionary in the pharmacy profession and one of the 50 most influential pharmacists advancing pharmaceutical care as the standard of practice.”  He now operates his own consulting firm, Nichol & Associates Pharmaceutical Care Consultants, based in Gahanna, Ohio and serves as the pharmacist consultant to the Ohio’s Department of Health Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps.  Nichol is also vice president of clinical operations for CeutiCare – a company he co-founded to expand the concepts of collaborative practice for medication therapy management in medical practice sites.  He has developed and patented clinical treatment algorithms in the areas of diabetes, hypertension, lipid management, vitamin D deficiency, secondary hyperparathyroidism, and asthma.

Nichol also has a faculty appointment to the University of Charleston in West Virginia as an associate professor, department of pharmacy practice, and currently serves on Ohio Pharmacy Association’s Disease State Management Task Force, which focuses on developing programs and legislation that allows pharmacists to be directly involved with other health professionals in all aspects of managing patient care.
