Oceanographic Center Student Government Association To Host 5K Charity Run to Benefit At-Risk Youth, March 23

Motion for the Ocean LogoThe Student Government Association at NSU’s Oceanographic Center will be hosting a 5K Charity Run/Walk, Motion for the Ocean, that will benefit at-risk youth. The event is scheduled for 8 a.m. Saturday, March 23 and will be held at the Oceanographic Center, 8000 N. Ocean Dr., Dania Beach (inside John U. Lloyd State Park in Hollywood.)

The Motion for the Ocean is a fundraiser and community-building event organized and hosted by NSU’s Oceanographic Center Student Government Association (SGA) and student volunteers.  The cost for participation in the race is $20 for early registration or $25 the day of the event.

All proceeds from the Motion for the Ocean 5k Run/Walk entry fees will be donated to AMIkids, a nationally recognized non-profit organization that works with at risk youth, giving them an opportunity to transform into responsible young adults. They offer kids a promising future through positive and motivating programs that inspire learning, leadership and personal growth. Additional donations can be made through NSU’s Oceanographic Center SGA.

Participants will enjoy the gorgeous backdrop of John U. Lloyd State Park, the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean and each runner will receive a t-shirt to commemorate their achievement.  Food and drinks will be provided at the end of the race and a small award ceremony will be held to recognize the top runners. Those interested in participating in this year’s run should register online at (http://www.active.com/dania-beach-fl/running/distance-running-races/motion-for-the-ocean-5k-run-walk-2nd-annual-2014) or (http://bit.ly/1jMTtBZ).
