National experts in the area of bullying and suicide prevention, Scott Poland, Ed.D. and Doug Flemons, Ph.D., from Nova Southeastern University’s Office of Suicide and Violence Prevention highlight statistics on the U.S. national suicide rate as well as the university’s efforts to help develop strategies for preventing suicide and violence. These insights were included in a guest editorial which appeared in The Miami Herald on Nov. 21. “Every 13.7 minutes in America someone dies. It’s not from car accidents or from disease or even natural causes; it’s by their own hand. In our country, suicide claims the lives of more than 38,000 of our neighbors, friends and family members each year… That’s why in 2004, Nova Southeastern University established a Crisis Prevention Committee to help develop strategies for preventing suicide and violence within the NSU community.”  The full guest editorial can be read here at: Help save a loved one’s life
