Representatives from Yacht Chandlers and the other sponsoring companies, with Oceanographic Center Dean, Richard Dodge, Ph.D. (far right, front row); Oceanographic Center Professor and Director of the Save our Seas Shark Center, Mahmood Shivji, Ph.D.(3rd left, front row); and Wendy Wood, Ocenographic Center assistant director of development (2nd right front row).

A consortium of environmentally-minded, local yachting industry companies led by Yacht Chandlers Inc., held their 3rd annual fundraising party on Oct. 25 to benefit the new Save Our Seas Shark Center (SOS SC) at NSU. The party was organized around a carnival theme with live music and a Brazilian dance troupe performance as part of the entertainment. The event was attended by nearly 2,500 people and raised over $23,000 for the SOS SC’s shark conservation research and education activities. Several Oceanographic Center staff and graduate students volunteered as helpers at the event.
