NSU’s College Goal Sunday Scores High Marks

Free On-site Assistance in Completing Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Ft. Lauderdale (Davie), Fla. – Nova Southeastern University (NSU) hosted its first College Goal Sunday event on Feb. 24 from 2 to 5 p.m.  There were 312 attendees, including 138 college-bound students and their families from Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach Counties who visited NSU’s main campus in Ft. Lauderdale for the event.  Participants who are planning to enroll at any college of their choice for the 2008-2009 academic year were provided free on-site financial aid presentations and assistance in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online.  College Goal Sunday is a volunteer service held across the country at various colleges.

“College Goal Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reach out to the community and provide valuable information to college-bound students and their families. Many of the participants I spoke with expressed gratitude at receiving great customer service from the volunteers at the event, especially those assisting them in understanding the financial aid process, and completing the financial aid application,” said Etta Fleischer, NSU’s College Goal Sunday site coordinator. NSU staff from Student Financial Services and Registration, Undergraduate Recruitment and Admissions and Residential Life volunteered at the event.

Two $500 scholarships were awarded to attendees, which must be used by the spring 2009 semester.  The winners were selected through a random drawing. The College Goal Sunday Scholarship may be used at any college of the winner’s choice.  The NSU College Goal Sunday Scholarship can be used at NSU only.
