NSU’s 2010 Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony to Be Held May 16 at BankAtlantic Center

The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences, the Fischler School of Education and Human Services, and the H. Wayne Huizenga School of Business and Entrepreneurship will jointly hold NSU’s 2010 Undergraduate Commencement ceremony on May 16 beginning at 4 p.m. in the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise. The NSU community is invited and encouraged to attend as NSU celebrates and honors the achievements of its graduating students. Tickets are not required for admission to the ceremony.

The college also welcomes Lieutenant-General (ret.) Roméo A. Dallaire, who will deliver the keynote talk at commencement as part of the college’s Distinguished Speakers Series. Leading a notable career in the Canadian Armed Forces, Dallaire was the force commander of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda (UNAMIR) from 1993 to 1994.

During a three-month span in 1994, an estimated 800,000 Rwandans were killed in a genocide waged by Hutu extremists against Tutsis and Hutu moderates. Dallaire tried to stop the genocide and is credited with saving lives in the central African nation. His leadership and courage in the face of these atrocities earned Dallaire international respect, as well as Canada’s most prestigious military honor, the Meritorious Service Cross.

Two days prior to commencement, graduating students, their families, and their friends are invited to attend the Baccalaureate Reception. The reception provides the NSU community with an opportunity to recognize the accomplishments of graduates in a social setting.

The Baccalaureate Reception is free and will take place on May 14, from 6 – 8 p.m. in the Don Taft University Center. Business attire is required. Graduating students planning to attend the reception should RSVP no later than May 7.
