NSU to host Stigma Fighters: Mental Health Awareness Festival, March 11

CPNP

NSU is hosting Stigma Fighters: Mental Health Awareness Festival on March 11, 2017; the event will take place on the main lawn of Nova Southeastern University, in front of the Alvin Sherman Library. The event will be held from 11: 00 am – 2:00 pm. The festival is free and open to the public, and will be celebrating the resources available in the community for mental health.

The Mental Health Awareness Festival is sponsored by the College of Psychiatric and Neurologic Pharmacists (CPNP), an organization at the NSU College of Pharmacy. CPNP is collaborating with other student organizations such as the NeuroPsych club from the College of Osteopathic Medicine, College of Psychology, organizations from the College of Undergraduate Studies, as well as our community partners.

Featuring music, art, food, and fun, the event will also host the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Broward County chapter, the Depression Bipolar Support Alliance, Henderson Clinic, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), and more community organizations that strive to help people with mental illness as well as their families. RadioX will provide entertainment and there may be surprise appearances.

This event will open the dialogue on mental illness and address the stigma attached to mental illness which affects more than one in four individuals at some point in their lives. It will provide a fun and safe environment for families and include hands on activities as well as education.

Any question regarding the event can be directed to Anupha Mathew at am3007@nova.edu or Samantha Shaffer at ss3286@nova.edu.
