NSU Stands With Orlando

Message from NSU President Dr. George Hanbury

Dear NSU Community,

George-L_-Hanbury-II-Ph_D_-1-200x300

Dr. George Hanbury President & CEO Nova Southeastern University

As President of Nova Southeastern University, I extend the university’s deepest sympathies to those affected by the unspeakable tragedy that occurred in Orlando this weekend.

Such violence is only made worse by the undertone of vitriol toward the LGBT community. NSU is a safe place for our LGBT students, faculty and staff members, alumni, donors, and visitors. We proudly live our core value of diversity every day; and hate toward any group of people because of who they are or what they believe is intolerable.

While the grieving process begins for those in Orlando and around the state and nation, NSU stands with you. All NSU students, including those at the Orlando Campus, can access help 24/7 by calling Henderson Student Counseling at (954) 424-6911.

In addition, NSU faculty and staff members who need access to mental health counseling may contact the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), a confidential, free resource that can help you deal with problems that seem overwhelming. You do not have to be enrolled in an NSU/ICUBA medical plan to use this benefit. Access EAP services online at www.resourcesforliving.com or by phone at 877-398-5816 (press option 1 for EAP services).

While nothing can undo the horrific events of this past weekend, we can choose how we react to this act of terrorism and hate. I ask you to be strong – for yourself and for those around you – and together, we will move forward while remembering those who were lost.

Please join me as we send our deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims, and those injured in this most heinous attack.
