NSU Speaker’s Forum Hosted by Dr. Larry A. Calderon, July 16

Debra Ann Nixon, Ph.D.

Debra Ann Nixon, Ph.D., assistant professor of marriage and family therapy at NSU’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) and the university-wide diversity and inclusion facilitator, will be the featured speaker at the NSU Speaker’s Forum on July 16. She will talk about assessing inclusion using the results from the Do Something Different campus inclusion survey.

Nixon is also a co-curriculum advisor for the SHSS Student Government Association (SGA). As an instructor in family therapy and graduate supervisor, Nixon fosters an atmosphere of learning that is challenging, yet inviting. Her goal  is to use therapeutic skill to facilitate collaborative learning. Nixon has the ability to effortlessly unearth the political correctness of human habit and sifting through learned bigotries, while giving the assurance that such behaviors and ideas are natural and are products of social conditioning. She has perfected her gift of creating a warm, safe place for self-reflection and personal growth. The product of her efforts is a community where diversity and inclusion coexist. Nixon has shared her passion and expertise both nationally and internationally.

The weekly NSU Speaker’s Forum is sponsored by Larry Calderon, Ed.D., NSU’s vice president for community and governmental affairs. Taking place each Friday from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., in the Boardroom of the Horvitz Administration Building, these forums allow speakers from the university to present on a vast array of topics, including their latest programs, research, campus activities and more. The forum includes breakfast as well as a question and answer session at the conclusion of the presentation.
