NSU Native Narrows Wildflower Garden Receives NatureScape Emerald Award

Emerald

This year, NSU’s Native Narrows Wildflower Garden, located on the north side of the library quad, received Broward County’s NatureScape Emerald Award. . Guided by its faculty advisor, Halmos faculty member Paul Arena, Ph.D., the student Nature Club developed the garden plan. The Nature Club, with assistance from NSU facilities management, will maintain this student initiative garden throughout the year.

Last year the National Wildlife Foundation has certified the garden as a wildlife habitat. The Florida Wildflower Foundation has recognized it as a Native Wildflower Garden. Members of NSU are encouraged to come visit the garden and watch it change over the seasons.

The NatureScape Emerald Award recognizes businesses, municipalities, schools, government facilities and homeowners who have created and maintained model Florida-friendly landscapes or completed exceptional projects.  The award was given for the use of 100% Florida native plants and that student volunteers maintain the garden and remove invasive exotic plant species.
