On September 21, 2018, the Jacksonville campus Tom Lemley Class Officers of 2020 were featured on Jacksonville’s local news station, News4Jax. Accompanied by Dr. Hugh Rappa, the four students were Connor Smith, Mady Ingmire, Shelby Parker and Naw-am Daniels. Nova Southeastern University Jacksonville Physician Assistant (PA) program collaborated with Gift of Life and One Blood to host an event to register donors to be a match for patients battling life threatening illnesses. During the segment, our students discussed the importance of bone marrow transplants for blood cancer patients. They also provided insight on the process involved with blood and bone marrow stem cell donations. Understanding the scarcity of bone marrow registrations, our students invited the entire community to mobilize and participate in the effort to find the perfect match for cancer patients who may be waiting for a life-saving bone marrow stem cell transplantation. In addition, the students also invited the community to the fundraiser bake sale for the medical mission trip of 2019.

On September 26, 2018, the NSU Jacksonville PA Program successfully held their Blood Drive and Bone Marrow Registry Drive. Students, faculty, as well as other donors from the community eagerly participated in the event. Due to the overwhelming response from the community, the PA students were also able to successfully raise money during their bake sale. Participants enjoyed baked goods after donating blood and registering for the bone marrow registry.
