NSU Hosts President’s Faculty Research and Development Grant (PFRDG) and Quality of Life Awards Ceremony

The 18th Annual President’s Faculty Research and Development Grant (PFRDG) and 15th Annual Quality of Life Awards ceremony was held on May 15 in the Don Taft University Center on NSU’s Fort Lauderdale/ Davie campus.

NSU President George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D., and Vice President for the Office of Research and Technology Transfer Gary Margules, Sc.D., recognized 29 research projects that received PFRDG awards up to $15,000 each for fiscal year 2018. The 29 PFRDG awards represent 15 academic units involving 68 faculty and 41 students for a total of $368,909. Overall a total of 55 PFRDG proposals was submitted.

Two Quality of Life Community-Based Applied Research Grant awards of up to $10,000 were presented in the areas of Children, Adults and Families Category and an Other Category for fiscal year 2018. Dr. Barbara Packer-Muti, Executive Director of the Office of Institutional and Community Engagement and Chair of the Quality of Life presented the awards.

The president thanked faculty members, as well as Palm Beach, Broward and Dade County Community Partners, who represented the Quality of Life project submissions, including the Outstanding Community Partner of the Year – the School District of Palm Beach County – which was accepted by Amity Schuyler, Chief Officer of Strategic Communications and Engagement for the School District of Palm Beach County.

Dr. Robert Speth, Professor in the College of Pharmacy and the 2016 Provost’s Research and Scholarship Award winner gave the closing remarks.
