NSU Faculty and Staff Receive Certification from the National Society of Experiential Education

NSU Faculty and Staff Receive Certification from the National Society of Experiential Education.

In response to President Hanbury’s initiative to embed experiential education in the undergraduate experience, Provost Ralph Rogers sponsored an experiential education academy for faculty and professional staff.

NSU hosted a total of six National Society of Experiential Education (NSEE) workshops between December 2016 and May 2017, including “Fundamentals of Experiential Learning”, “Assessment in Experiential Learning”, “Reflection: Making the Experiences Educational”, and more. On Tuesday, May 9, Dr. Rogers and the NSEE awarded 17 faculty and 4 professional staff members with national certification in Experiential Education.

 Fischler College of Education

Two faculty from NSU’s Abraham S. Fischler College of Education received certificates from NSEE: Charlene Desir, Ed.D., faculty in the Department of Higher Education Leadership & Instructional Technology, and Rashid Moore, Ph.D., faculty in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction. Drs. Moore and Desir will continue to serve their college and provide support to the broader NSU faculty as Experiential Learning Fellows.

 College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences
Three faculty from NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) received certificates from NSEE: David Kilroy, Ph.D., faculty in the Department of History and Political Science, Kelly Concannon, Ph.D., and Molly Scanlon, Ph.D., both faculty in the Department of Writing and Communication. Drs. Kilroy, Conncannon, and Scanlon will continue to serve their college and provide support to the broader NSU faculty as Experiential Learning Fellows.

College of Engineering & Computing
Two faculty from NSU’s College of Engineering and Computing, both received certificates from NSEE: Frank Mitropoulos, Ph.D., faculty in the Department of Engineering and Technology and Martha Snyder, Ph.D., faculty in the Department of Information Systems and Cybersecurity. Drs. Mitropoulos and Snyder will continue to serve their college and provide support to the broader NSU faculty as Experiential Learning Fellows.

Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship

Three faculty members from NSU’s H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship (HCBE), received certificates from NSEE: Barri Litt, Ph.D., in the Department of Accounting, Rita Shea-Van Fossen, Ph.D., in the Department of Management, and Ryan Miller, Ph.D., in the Department of Marketing. Drs. Litt, Shea-Van Fossen, and Miller will continue to serve their college and provide support to the broader NSU faculty as Experiential Learning Fellows.

 Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography

Three faculty members from NSU’s Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography received certificates from NSEE: Amy Hirons, Ph.D., in the Department of Marine and Environmental Sciences, and Emily Schmitt, Ph.D. and Aarti Raja, Ph.D. in the Department of Biological Sciences. Drs. Hirons, Schmitt, and Raja will continue to serve their college and provide support to the broader NSU faculty as Experiential Learning Fellows.

College of Health Care Sciences

Two faculty members from NSU’s College of Health Care Sciences received certificates from NSEE: Heather Hettrick, PT, Ph.D., CWS, CLT, CLWT, in the Department of Physical Therapy; and Elizabeth Swann, Ph.D., ATC, LAT, in the Department of Health and Human Performance. Drs. Hettrick and Swann will continue to serve their college and provide support to the broader NSU faculty as Experiential Learning Fellows.

College of Psychology

Three faculty members from NSU’s College of Psychology received certificates from NSEE: Myron Burns, Ph.D., Tim Razza, Ph.D., and Jaime Tartar, Ph.D. all are in the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience. Drs. Burns and Razza will continue to serve their college and provide support to the broader NSU faculty as Experiential Learning Fellows.

The following NSU staff and faculty members all earned their National Certification and will be identified as NSU Experiential Learning Fellows:

  • Teri Williams, Ph.D.- Assistant Director for Experiential Education
  • Shari Saperstein- Associate Dean, College of Undergraduate Studies
  • Mignon Bissonnette- Associate Director for Career Advisement and Pre-Professional Services
  • Alejandra Matias- Undergraduate Academic Advisor
  • David Spangler, Ph.D.- Director of Community Collaboration/University School
