NSU Donates $30,000 to Hispanic Unity of Florida

NSU President George Hanbury II, Ph.D. and Larry Calderon, Ed.D., the university’s vice president for community and governmental affairs, presented a check to Nydia Menendez, Hispanic Unity of Florida Chair; and Josie Bacallao, Hispanic Unity of Florida CEO, at the organization’s office in Hollywood. Calderon is also the secretary to HUF’s Board of Directors.

The purpose of HUF is to serve immigrants and their families from varying ethnicities, by empowering them to be successful in the United States, according to its website. HUF’s clients have a sincere desire to be successful. They are motivated by sheer will and are determined to provide for themselves and their families. Self sufficiency can only be realized through education and empowerment, which is why HUF works everyday to assist these families by giving them the tools needed to build a new life in their new homeland.
