NSU Contributes to Fight Against Zika

Mosquitos carry the Zika virus around South Florida.

For most Floridians, mosquitoes are merely pests dealt with on a hot summer night. Unfortunately, in 2016, they’ve become more than just pests. As the Zika virus become more rampant in South Florida, people are more concerned with health risks mosquitoes now pose, rather than just their usual relentless buzzing. To help educate the community, NSU and its staff and faculty are working with officials to share helpful and necessary information about the virus.

The Sun Sentinel newspaper featured two examples of NSU’s commitment to prevention the spreading of this virus: (1) NSU’s Zika information meeting featuring House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi ,U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz ; (2) the information provided by NSU Public Health Professor James T. Howell, M.D., M.P.H., about his opinion of the virus in South Florida.
