NSU College of Pharmacy Grants its First Ph.D. Degree

David Mastropietro

David Mastropietro

On August 22, David Mastropietro, B.S.Pharm., R.Ph., presented and successfully defended his doctoral thesis titled “Design and Analysis of Novel Abuse Deterrent Formulations” to become the first graduate of the College of Pharmacy Ph.D. program.

Mastropietro successfully completed his Ph.D. in four years, and defended how his work on developing abuse-deterrent technologies can potentially prevent recreational abuse of prescription medications by injection and snorting. Working closely with his advisor Hamid Omidian, Ph.D., their research on abuse-deterrent medications and other projects has so far led to eight inventions, 17 publications, 24 conference presentations, three grants, and two book chapters.
