NSU Athletics Names Head Women’s Golf Coach
Nova Southeastern University Director of Athletics Michael Mominey has announced Heather Burgner Wall as the next head coach for NSU women’s golf. Wall, the 2009 Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year in women’s golf at Florida Southern, takes over the Sharks women’s golf program after spending four years as the head men’s and women’s coach at Arkansas Monticello.
“We are excited to announce Heather Wall as our new head women’s golf coach,” Mominey said. “She is a great addition to our Sharks family and we welcome her back ‘home’ to the Sunshine State Conference. I am very confident that she will keep the winning tradition of our program very much alive given her pedigree of success as a student-athlete, professional player and coach.”
Wall is no stranger to the Sunshine State Conference having played at Florida Southern from 2005-2009. While playing for the Moccasins, she was a three-time first-team All-American, 2009 SSC Women’s Golfer of the Year and two-time All-SSC honoree. In 2007, Wall finished fourth overall at the NCAA Division II National Championship, leading the Moccasins to their fourth NCAA national title. In 2015, she was inducted into the FSC Athletics Hall of Fame.
“This is an amazing opportunity and I am beyond blessed,” Wall said. “Nova Southeastern is a powerhouse in college golf and I can’t wait to get started. I’m leaving behind both a men’s and women’s team at Arkansas Monticello that is very special to me, and I wish them nothing but the best. I would like to thank Mike Mominey, Kelley Kish and the rest of the Sharks family for making me feel so welcome and for believing in me. I am so excited to be back in the SSC and look forward to the future.”
Setting FSC single-season stroke average marks in both 2008 (74.80) and again in 2009 (74.27), she is the school’s career record holder for stroke average with a 75.65 mark for four years. Additionally, Wall had a program-best 11 top-10 finishes in 2009 and a school-best 34 top-10 finishes in her career. She still holds school records for low scores of 67 (one round), 141 (combined two rounds) and 214 (combined three rounds).
Wall began her head-coaching career at the University of Arkansas Monticello. In her short time at UAM, Wall had a major impact on the growth of both the men’s and women’s programs. During the 2015-16 season, she guided the men’s program to their first team win in school history, while the women’s team picked up their second team title. In May, she mentored two female golfers that went on to qualify individually for regional play. Over her four years at UAM, both programs have significantly improved their team stroke averages and most recently set school scoring records at the Great American Conference Championship. Not only have Wall’s teams been successful on the course, but the classroom as well. During her tenure, both teams have consistently recorded team GPA’s over 3.0 and for the last two, the men’s team has been over 3.5.
