Nova Southeastern University and the Yul Brynner Head and Neck Cancer Foundation Inc to provide free Cancer Screenings
FT. LAUDERDALE-DAVIE Fla. —- Have you ever smoked, chewed or dipped tobacco? If so, you might want to know that 85 percent of all head and neck cancers are related to tobacco products.
The number of head and neck cancer cases has been rising at an alarming rate nationwide. The disease can result in facial disfigurement and even death.
To curb this public health epidemic, Nova Southeastern University (NSU) and the Yul Brynner Head and Neck Cancer Foundation Inc. have joined forces to hold free cancer screenings on April 21 during national Oral, Head & Neck Cancer Awareness Week.
The screenings will be held at NSU’s College of Dental Medicine on Monday April 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. National Oral, Head & Neck Cancer Awareness Week runs from April 21 to 27.
“Oral and other head and neck cancers is a serious problem that must be detected early,” said Michael A. Siegel, DDS, MS, FRCSEd, NSU Professor and Chair of the Department of Diagnostic Sciences. “When diagnosed very early, the cancer is easy to treat and cure.”
Terry Day, M.D., President of the Yul Brynner Foundation said: “Unfortunately, we are not doing a good enough job in finding these cancers early enough to cure more of them. We are delighted that Nova Southeastern University’s College of Dental Medicine is participating to help fight this disease.”
