NSU Alvin Sherman Library presents “Florida and World War II,” RSVP by Nov. 9

2016-FHC-Gary-Mormino-FlyerStep back in time for a presentation by Gary Mormino, Ph.D., on Florida and World War II, in honor of Veterans Day. The event will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 7 pm at the NSU Alvin Sherman Library, 2nd Floor Cotilla Gallery. This presentation is the second of a 5-part series funded by the Florida Humanities Council taking place through April 2017, and is free and open to the public.

On the eve of Pearl Harbor, Florida was the smallest state in the South. The war galvanized Floridians, resulting in the influx of two million servicemen, a modern civil rights movement, new roles for women, and the dawn of the Florida dream.

Gary Mormino is the Frank E. Duckwall professor emeritus in Florida history at USF St. Petersburg, and currently holds the position of “scholar in residence” at the Florida Humanities Council. The recipient of 3 teaching awards and the “Charlie Award” for the year’s best article in 2009, Mormino was named “Florida Icon” in 2012 by Florida Trend, and honored with the “Distinguished Author Award” by the Florida House in 2012.

Funding for this series has been provided by The Florida Humanities Council (www.FloridaHumanities.org) with funds from The Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs. Reservations are required, so be sure to RSVP by Wednesday, November 9.   For more information about the series, or to register, click on this link:  public.library.nova.edu/FHC.
