Ruth Jacoby, Ed.D.

Ruth Jacoby, Ed.D.

Ruth Jacoby, Ed.D. (’95), is executive director of education for Somerset Academy Charter Schools. Her mission there is to develop and head the Principal Leadership program, supporting the school’s vision to “grow future leaders from within.” She organizes a yearly Somerset Conference for more than 600 educators, as well as organizes and runs Principal Leadership chats. Jacoby is the author or coauthor of six books: Teacher Talk, Parent Talk (published in Korean), Principal Talk, School Board Talk, Homework Talk, and Test Talk.

She has presented at national conferences for such groups as Florida Charter Schools, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and the National Association of Elementary School Principals. She also serves on the SACS Accreditation Review Team and wrote the Governing Board Training and MAP Plan for the Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools. She previously has served on the governing boards of Mater Academy, Miami Children’s Museum Charter School, Pinecrest Academy, and Somerset Academy.

Her honors include being the first recipient of the Champion School Leader award by Florida Consortium of Public Charter Schools and being a part of the first charter school system to receive district accreditation from Advanc-Ed. Outside of education, her passions include painting, reading, exercising, and “loving my grandchildren.”

“Holding an NSU degree has opened countless doors to further my career,” Jacoby said. “It gave me the confidence to speak in front of large groups, develop missions for educational organizations, and be an effective educational leader.”
