“Let There Be Balloons” at Museum of Art, Dec. 7-11

Let There Be Balloons
December 7-11
Horvitz Auditorium

A new, light-hearted, but poignant musical takes a look at the impact of the global economy, unemployment, the brave new world of reproductive technology, autism and gay parenting with a world premiere on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 8 pm and additional performances on Dec. 8- Dec. 9 at 8 pm, and weekend matinees on Dec. 10 and 11, at 2 pm. Tickets are $17 for adults and $12 for students and seniors and can be ordered through www.ticketleap.com or www.lovewell.org. Created by the Lovewell Theatre Project (a division of Lovewell Institute) Let There Be Balloons tells the story of Sarah, an adventurous young woman who returns to her small Ohio hometown after a life-altering stint working in Africa. Coming home, she must unexpectedly confront another disastrous situation. The pride of her family and her home town – a large balloon factory – is shutting down and its operations are being shifted overseas. Most jobs in the town are suddenly vanishing. To earn money to help her family out of their financial calamity, Sarah makes a daring move — she signs on to be the surrogate mother for a gay couple in New York. She soon finds herself caught up in the heartfelt, and sometimes hilarious, drama of not just her own family but also the new, non-traditional one she is helping to create.
