Nova Southeastern University Hosting Pan America (RASG-PA) Aviation Safety Seminar

NSU-AviationHumanFactors - medFORT LAUDERDALE-DAVIE, Fla. – Airline safety is something everyone takes seriously. Over the years, statistics show that air travel is safer than it has ever been – through advancements in both technology as well as training of air crews. But it’s a never-ending process to keep increasing the level of safety for airline passengers.

Nova Southeastern University’s Institute for the Study of Human Service, Health and Justice, Human Factors in Aviation curriculum meets that critical need through the training of current and future pilots. To that end, the Institute will be hosting the 2015 International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Regional Aviation Safety Group – Pan America (RASG-PA) Aviation Safety Seminar.

The seminar is scheduled from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Wednesday, May 20 and from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Thursday, May 21 at NSU’s Terry Administrative Building 3200 S. University Dr., Davie (Melnick Auditorium #2109).

NSU, along with the International Civil Aviation Organization, will be welcoming aviation professionals of all levels to participate in the second RASG-PA Aviation Safety Seminar 2015. This annual event focuses on the development and implementation of aviation safety enhancement initiatives for the Pan American Region to mitigate the foremost risk areas, including Runway Excursions (REs), Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT), Loss of Control In-flight (LOC-I) and Mid Air Collisions (MAC).

The seminar will bring together professional pilots (airlines and private jets,) student pilots, aviation regulators (U.S. and International) and aviation educators. Other organizations joining NSU for this two-day seminar include, but are not limited to: are American Flyers, Embry-Riddle, Broward College, and Embraer.

The goal of the event is to share awareness of safety across the aviation industry as well as to develop a “just safety culture” and share the best technical practices in aviation safety. The event is also part of the continued partnership between NSU and Embraer Global, to help develop future safety aviation professionals. The partnership continues to develop research and training to bring awareness to human factors in the aviation industry.
