FORT LAUDERDALE/DAVIE, Fla. – The announcement, made on September 25th, of a $50 million gift by the Drs. Kiran and Pallavi Patel to Nova Southeastern University (NSU) sparked several days of festivities. Highlights included a dinner at Lauderdale Yacht Club hosted by NSU President Dr. George L. Hanbury and NSU’s Board of Trustees. Pops of red and gold in the floral arrangements, a performance by Maasti, NSU’s student Bollywood fusion dance competition team, and a special menu, paid tribute to the honorees’ Indian heritage.
More than 60 local, regional, and international press representatives attended the official media announcement held on NSU’s Fort Lauderdale/Davie campus. The event outlined plans for the $50 million gift as well as an additional commitment of $150 million for a new home for NSU’s Tampa Bay regional programs, and a second site for NSU’s Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Clearwater, Florida. The announcement concluded with an outdoor reveal of the names of two NSU colleges – Dr. Kiran C. College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Dr. Pallavi Patel College of Health Care Sciences. The names appear on the front entrance of the Terry Building, NSU’s gateway to its Health Professions Division, comprising eight total colleges, including the M.D. College which recently received preliminary accreditation. NSU is the only university to offer a M.D. degree program in Broward County, and one of 3 nationwide to offer degrees in both Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) and Allopathic Medicine (M.D.).
