No. 3 Nova Southeastern University rowing will make its sixth consecutive appearance at the NCAA Division II Rowing Championships as the varsity eight received an at-large bid to compete as recently announced by the NCAA.
The Sharks will be up against the best competition Division II has to offer on May 27-29 in Gold River, California. NSU will row in the first heat against No. 1 Barry University and No. 8 Humboldt State University with the hope of advancing to the final. Other competitors include No. 2 University of Central Oklahoma and tied for No. 4 Mercyhurst University and Western Washington University.
“We are tremendously honored to be competing at the NCAA Championships for the sixth consecutive year,” said head coach Heather Barney. “Our bid is a testament to the hard work and dedication of every single one of our 29 student-athletes throughout the year. We are very proud of the way they represent our team and the university.”
Most recently, the varsity eight took fourth ahead of No. 4 Mercyhurst and No. 6 Florida Tech at the Dad Vail Regatta with a time of 7:08.70. The team has performed very well this year, with the varsity eight leading the Sharks to a second-place finish at the Sunshine State Conference (SSC) Championship after coming in a close second in their race. Earlier this year, the eight had a third-place finish at FIRA Championships as well as claimed second in the Third Level Final at the Knecht Cup.
