U.S. Navy Medical Service Corps Promotes NSU College of Pharmacy Alumnus to Commander

Christopher G. Lynch, Pharm.D., M.Ed., College of Pharmacy alumnus, class of 1997, was officially promoted to Commander by Rear Admiral, Bob Kiser, inaugural commandant for the Military’s Medical Education & Training Campus (METC), on Oct. 7 at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. Lynch’s promotion by the U.S. Navy to the rank of commander designates him as a “senior officer.” Officers promoted to this rank commensurately wear a cover that has clusters of oak leafs on the brim to distinguish them from junior officers. Lynch has received numerous awards for his overall leadership and professional achievement, including four Navy & Marine Corps Commendation Medals; the Navy & Marine Corps Achievement Medal; two (2) Admirals’ Letter of Commendation for specific leadership actions; and (4) Commanding Officers’ Letter of Commendation for the superior performance of his duties.
Lynch enlisted in the Navy in 1986 at the age of 17, and served in the junior enlisted ranks until commissioned as a lieutenant in the Navy’s Medical Service Corps in 1997. Since graduating from pharmacy school, he has served in a multitude of military pharmacy positions throughout the U.S. In his current position, Lynch serves as the inaugural director for a first of its kind, a joint-military service pharmacy technician training program that is recognized as the premiere program within the profession. He leads a multiservice team of 35 faculty pharmacists and technicians tasked with instructing more than 560 students annually.

Lynch is licensed in Florida and Texas and holds professional affiliations with the American Pharmaceutical Association, Phi Lamdba Sigma Pharmacy Leadership Society, and the Phi Delta Chi pharmacy fraternity. He has conducted numerous national presentations to military pharmacists, technicians, and organizations throughout the U.S. for over ten years. Lynch will be transferred in February, 2012 to the Naval Hospital in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba where he will serve as Chief of Pharmacy Services for an eighteen-month unaccompanied tour of duty.
