Museum Of Art | Fort Lauderdale Offers Popular Summer Nights of Art, For Adults

To appeal to adults looking to develop their artistic skills in select mediums, The Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale, Nova Southeastern University, is once again offering its Studio School Summer Nights of Art adult classes. Initially created in response to demand for adult art classes during the summer, Summer Nights of Art is now in its third year.

The 10-week program will begin the week of June 15 and continue through the week of August 17. During this summer session, each class meets once a week from 6:30 to 9:00 pm.   All classes will be taught by active professional artist and art instructors.

Summer Nights of Art 2010 classes include:

Oil Painting – Teaches and develops fundamental techniques including paint handling, surface preparation, color mixing and self-expression. Color concept, picture plane proportion, and composition will be reviewed and applied.

Drawing – A fundamental class which instructs and develops students’ drawing skills. The instructor will show students how to see the subject, including line, form, lighting and shadows, and develop technique. Subject matter will range from basic shapes to traditional still life and the human form. Individual and group critiques are part of every class. Primary mediums used will be charcoal and pencils.

Figure Drawing – Introduces the anatomy and structure of the human figure using a variety of nude figure models, as well as reference to the skeleton. Students will learn the proportion of the human skeleton as applied to a variety of model proportions. Models will perform dynamic, gestural poses and extended poses. Primary medium used will be charcoal.

The tuition is $225 per course; those registering for more than one course receive a $15 discount for each additional course. A $15 registration fee is applicable for non-Museum members. Additionally, a $50 model fee will be required from each student taking the Figure Drawing course.
