Monthly Art Roundtable | Women’s Work-Art and Fashion: A Study of Sonia Delaunay

Tuesday, July 9, 2013

Noon – 1:30 pm

For members at the Museum Enthusiast ($150) level and above

Sonia Delaunay was a Jewish-French artist who, with her husband Robert Delaunay and others, cofounded the Orphism art movement, noted for its use of strong colours and geometric shapes. Her work extends to painting, textile design and stage set design.  She was the first living female artist to have a retrospective exhibition at the Louvre in 1964, and in 1975 was named an officer of the French Legion of Honor.  Her work in modern design included the concepts of geometric abstraction, the integration of furniture, fabrics, wall coverings, and clothing.

Professor M. Kathleen Colussy, M.F.A. has traveled to 71 countries on 5 continents where she has researched and photographed numerous cultures. As an artist fashion and textile print designer and photographer, Colussy’s new fine art series of handmade books contends with the dueling realities of the slick gloss travel brochures versus the sometimes gritty reality of the indigenous people living and/or working in a given country.

This is a complimentary event for members at the Museum Enthusiast ($150) level and above.  Reservations are required.  To RSVP and for more information, contact Lee Ledegang at lee.ledegang@moafl.org or 954-262-0221.   Lunch is available at our own Museum Café and a discount applies for Museum members.  Please pre-order by Friday, July 5.   Click HERE to view our café menu online.
