NSU hosts Miami Dolphins Symposium; Speakers focus on education and character

More than 700 student-athletes and coaches participated in the Miami Dolphins 7-on-7 football tournament and symposium on NSU’s campus recently. The symposium, held in the Arena at the Don Taft University Center, featured current and former NFL players, coaches and members of the Florida National Guard, including   George Hegamin of Under Armour, Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland, Head Coach Joe Philbin, former Dolphin players Twan Russell and  Troy Drayton, and Defensive Lineman Ryan Baker .

Speakers stressed the importance of quality education and character development. Conversations included guidance on practical life  lessons, preparation for life after high school, personal development and how to prepare for standardized tests.

On the playing field,  student-athletes were taught  fundamental skill development by position and they were given an opportunity to participate in live offensive and defensive drills developed by NFL and NCAA coaches.

The overarching mission of the Miami Dolphins Youth Program emphasizes the importance of education, physical fitness, and positive choices for kids and young adults in a safe and fun environment. The Miami Dolphins Youth Programs’ vision is to prepare the next generation of leaders in staying physically active through our Junior Training Camps (JTC), Youth Football Clinics, and Youth Football Camps.
