NSU Alumni Spotlight: Meixandra Porter Selected as HEICO Alumni of the Month

AlumniOfTheMonth

Nova Southeastern Athletics would like to recognize former women’s basketball player Meixandra Porter as its February 2019 GEICO Alumni of the Month.

A 2013 Business graduate who played under coach LeAnn Freeland-Curry, Porter is currently stationed in California as servicewoman in the United States Air Force.

On the court for the Sharks, the two-time All-Sunshine State Conference first-teamer earned the distinction of becoming the program’s inaugural First Team All-America honoree. Porter also led NSU to the Sharks’ first NCAA Elite 8 and remains the school record-holder for points in a game (36), three-pointers in a game (9) and steals in a season (77). In two seasons as point guard with the Sharks, she produced 959 points, 207 rebounds, 153 assists and 122 steals.

Unsurprisingly, the accolades kept flowing after entering the military. Porter was an Honor Graduate of USAF Basic Military Training (BMT) with the 737th Training Group. Averaging 95 percent in Tech School Training, Porter was also recognized as Most Outstanding Airman for the 323rd Training Squadron, personally selected by Military Training Instructors (MTIs) as Dorm Chief for 52 women from Flight 384 of the 323 TRS.

“Meix was a pleasure to coach for two seasons and became one of the best players here at NSU,” boasted Freeland-Curry. “She is a very loyal, hard working and determined individual. We are very proud of Meix and excited she was recognized for her service to our country as the NSU Alumni of the Month.”
