Letters of support needed for relocation of Plantation General Hospital to NSU’s main campus, Submit by Sept. 26

A Note to NSU Employees from President George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D.

Once again, I am asking for your help. Although HCA East Florida was denied by the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) last year, you helped us demonstrate community support to AHCA for a proposed new hospital at Nova Southeastern University’s main campus. This year, instead of requesting new beds for a hospital, HCA is requesting approval to relocate (no new beds) a community hospital, Plantation General, to NSU’s main campus, as detailed in their Letter of Intent to file a Certificate of Need.

Relocation of Plantation General from State Road 7 (US 441) to NSU’s campus on University Drive will allow for easier access to a community hospital and provide a broader geographic distribution of beds in Broward County. The current physical plant is aging and replacement will allow for a new state-of-the-art facility with the latest technology. Coupling this replacement community hospital with an academic affiliation with NSU creates the opportunity for research and the development of a world-class educational experience for healthcare. I believe this is extremely positive for the community, providing greater access to care, world-class healthcare facilities, and reinforcing a long-standing reputation of community-based care.

You can serve a vital role in seeing that the latest health care technology comes to fruition through relocation of Plantation General to the NSU campus.

Toward this effort, if you would be so kind to once again prepare a letter of support, it would be greatly appreciated. Specifically, we need you to write a letter in support of Plantation General’s application for a Certificate of Need (CON) with the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). Download a sample letter here as well as suggested phrasing and additional specifics here.  Please complete your letter and send it to my office either by fax, U.S. mail or e-mail so we can include the letter with HCA’s packet to AHCA.

We must receive all letters by Friday, September 26. If you need assistance, please contact my office or Dr. Jennifer O’Flannery Anderson by phone at (954) 262-2114 or by email at joa@nova.edu.
