Huizenga Business School Lecture features Richard P. Goudis Chief Operating Officer Herbalife, Ltd.

Speaking to a full audience in the Huizenga Sales Institute’s Executive Conference Center, Richard P. Goudis quoted Casey Kasem’s famous words, “Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.”  As a 17 year old, Goudis was impacted by Kasem’s words and knew he wanted to do something, he just wasn’t sure what that something would be.  As Chief Operating Officer for Herbalife, Goudis is responsible for building and sustaining the company’s global infrastructure including product development worldwide operations, human resources, information technology and finance and operations in each of the company’s geographic regions.  Herbalife has more than 7,400 employees and Independent Herbalife Members in more than 90 countries.   An alum of the Huizenga Business School, Goudis did not grow up in a family where his father guided him but he has been disciplined to achieve more than 25 years of financial management experience with companies such as Pratt & Whitney, Sunbeam Corporation, and Rexall Sundown.  He discussed tools which have helped him become a corporate leader, highlighting professional and personal examples including the following key points:

  • Be self-confident
  • Outwork everyone
  • Don’t work for insecure people
  • Pick the right partner in life
  • Treat employees like family
  • Be a cheerleader, praise in public
  • Work in an industry that you enjoy
  • Be honest-it takes a lifetime to build your reputation and a moment to lose it
  • Seek work life balance (family, work, community)
  • Be happy! Or “they” will find someone who is!
