Halmos Graduate Students Hosting International Coastal Cleanup, Oct. 7

On Saturday, October 7, the graduate students from Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography will be hosting part of the International Coastal Cleanup. Anyone who wants to help keep our beaches clean is welcome!

Beach cleanupThe event runs from 8am – 1pm and will start at the Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park (formerly known as John U. Lloyd Beach State Park). Volunteers must show at 9:00am to sign up, fill forms and get ready to pick up trash. We recommend you to bring sunblock, water, and sunscreen.

Ocean trash is a serious pollution problem that affects your health, wildlife and local economies. Trash in the water and on the shore can kill marine animals, injure swimmers and beachgoers, and ensnare boat propellers. We need your help to solve this problem. In 2015, more than 18 million pounds of trash was collected by nearly 800,000 volunteers during the International Coastal Cleanup.
