Halmos Chair Wins NSU Excellence in Community Service Award

Schmitt Lavin

This year’s NSU’s President’s Excellence in Community Service honor was awarded to Halmos College departmental chair of biological sciences, Emily Schmitt Lavin, Ph.D. Since fall of 2009 she has been partnering with schools in Broward County, FL and NSU to connect the college community with local schools to bring hands-on science education and learning opportunities to school age children.

The President’s Excellence in Community Service Award recognizes superior professional engagement activities in the community. The award encourages the ongoing pursuit of community service and exemplifies NSU’s “community” core value. Through this award, Nova Southeastern University proclaims its pride in the accomplishments and personal dedication of its activities in the community. This award is conferred upon an NSU administrator/professional who demonstrates significant contributions to the community and serves as a role model for ongoing community engagement for NSU students.
