Nova Southeastern University men’s golfer Santiago Gomez recently participated in a world class event, The Sprit International, at Whispering Pines Golf Club.

The three-day event is a showcase of the top amateur golfers from around the world, paired up by country, each represented by two men and two women. In all, 20 teams were chosen for the biannual, best-ball competition, hosted by the World Health & Golf Association.

Gomez, a senior and native of Armenia, Colombia, competed for his home country along with his fellow countryman Nicolas Echavarria. The duo had an excellent conclusion to the event, tying for the best final round of 9-under and shooting up 10 spots up the men’s leaderboard to sixth. Individually, Gomez ranked third among the 40 men’s golfers over the 72 holes with 15 total birdies.

The reigning DII National Player of the Year will rejoin the Sharks for their next tournament, the Otter Invitational, this Monday and Tuesday in Seaside, California.
