The accolades continue to roll in for Justin Garcia (Jr., Hialeah, Fla.), as he has been named the ABCA/Rawlings South Region Player of the Year. It is Garcia’s fourth Player of the Year award after being named the Sunshine State Conference POY, NBCWA South Region POY and Daktronics South Region POY.

“It’s an honor to be selected player of the year with all the talented players there are in what is considered the toughest region,” said Garcia. “I feel blessed and I couldn’t do this without my teammates who constantly put me in a position to be successful and are believe in me on a daily basis.”

Joining Garcia on the ABCA/Rawlings awards list is Zachary Westcott (R-Sr., Weston, Fla.), Ryan Castellanos (Jr., Davie, Fla.) and Roche Woodard (Sr., Tampa, Fla.). Westcott was named first team relief pitcher, while Castellanos was a second team starting pitcher selection and Woodard was named a second team outfielder. Westcott received second team as a sophomore.

Garcia finished the 2015 campaign hitting .385 with 26 home runs and 71 RBI. The left-handed hitting slugger broke the school record for home runs by nine home runs. Westcott posted a 2.30 ERA in 43.0 innings pitched, while striking out 59 batters out of the bullpen. Castellanos was as consistent as it gets on the mound for the Sharks, tossing six or more innings in 12 of his 14 starts for NSU. The right-handed hurling junior finished the year with a 3.23 ERA and a 9-3 record. Woodard hit .349 with a team-high 19 doubles.
