Farquhar College to Host Undergraduate Student Symposium – April 3
The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences will present its eighth-annual Undergraduate Student Symposium on Friday, April 3, 2009, from 1 to 5 p.m., in the Alvin Sherman Library and the Performance Theatre in the Don Taft University Center.
The Undergraduate Student Symposium features student projects and performances through oral presentations, paper submissions, and poster displays. The event showcases the outstanding scholarship of undergraduate students at Nova Southeastern University. As part of the event, the college will also host the third-annual NSU Undergraduate Film Festival, scheduled to feature five short student-made films. The films, which correspond with the college’s 2008–2009 academic theme of “Life and Death,” will be screened and judged by faculty members and local filmmakers.
The symposium is open to undergraduate students from all disciplines. Projects cover areas of student scholarship ranging from the experimental, applied, and computational to the theoretical, artistic, and literary. The submissions come from class assignments as well as from independent projects. Each student works with an NSU faculty member, who serves as a mentor and sponsor for the student’s research project.
All participants in the symposium gain valuable experience, presentation skills, and recognition by the college and their peers. Judging will take place during all presentations and prizes will be awarded for outstanding projects in several categories at the end of the day.
