Exploring Identity in a Virtual World at Faculty Lecture, Nov. 6

Mason_Eric

Eric Mason, Ph.D.

From social media to online dating sites to video games, we now have the ability to “curate” our online identities. But what kinds of identities are created in these online spaces and to what ends? The Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences will host a discussion on this topic as part of its Faculty Lecture Series.

“Me, You, and My Avatar: Composing Real Identities in Virtual Worlds”
Faculty Lecture Series | Eric Mason, Ph.D., assistant professor
Thursday, November 6, 2014
Noon–1:00 p.m.
Alvin Sherman Library / Second Floor Gallery
About the Talk

What kind of roles and relationships are we moving toward in today’s digital media? Are we, as some suggest, increasingly narcissistic recluses who are merely “alone together?” This lecture will examine the role of digital spaces in how we see ourselves and how others see us.

This event is free and all are welcome to attend. For more information, contact Stephen Levitt, LL.M., at (954) 262-8210.
