Computer & Information Sciences School Interim Dean Appointed VP of IEEE-USA

Nova Southeastern University’s Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences Interim Dean, Eric S. Ackerman, Ph.D., has been appointed vice president of Career and Member Services of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)-USA. This two-year appointment was made by the Board of Directors of IEEE-USA and is effective in 2013. IEEE-USA implements policies and programs specifically intended to serve and benefit the members, the profession, and the public in the United States.

The IEEE (I-Triple-E) is a professional association headquartered in New York City that is dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence. It has more than 400,000 members in more than 160 countries, about 51.4% of whom reside in the United States.

The committees that Ackerman will be responsible for include:

  • Alliance of IEEE Consultants Networks
  • Employment and Career Services Committee Entrepreneurial Services Committee Licensure and Registration (P.E. exams)
  • K-12 STEM

Since starting the IEEE student branch at NSU in 1992, Ackerman has been active with IEEE in the local, state and region in various leadership positions. NSU hosted IEEE SoutheastCon 2005 with Ray Ferrero as the keynote speaker, which attracted over 900 attendees.

NSU’s Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences faculty members regularly publish in IEEE journals and attend IEEE conferences throughout the year.
