Collaborative Research Group Places Second in National Research Competition
Natalie A. Builes, B.A., Pharm. D. candidate, NSU College of Pharmacy, and Dominick J. Casciato, B.A., D.P.M. candidate, Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine, at the OCPM Foundation Student Research Competition
Nova Southeastern University College of Pharmacy second-year student Natalie Builes and Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine first-year student Dominick Casciato earned second place at the First Annual Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine (OCPM) Foundation Student Research Competition. OCPM is part of Kent State University.
Their poster presentation, “Using 3-D Printing and Computer-Aided Design to Enhance Patient Education,” demonstrated the potential of 3-D printing in a clinical setting. Through personalized 3-D prints of podiatric pathologies, their project greatly improved patient understanding of medication application and foot-care directions.
This collaborative achievement reflects the promising role of individualized medicine in interprofessional patient care.
