Center for Psychological Studies’ Lenore E.A. Walker, Ed.D., Interviewed about “Honor Violence” and Details Surrounding Child Abuse Case

Lenore Walker, Ed.D, Center for Psychological Studies

Lenore Walker, Ed.D., professor at Nova Southeastern University’s Center for Psychological Studies, and coordinator of the Clinical Forensic Psychology Concentration, was interviewed on Tuesday March 20 by NBC 6 Miami regarding “honor violence” and its increasing presence here in the US.

Walker’s interview comes in response to the recent case of child abuse where a South Florida mother used a knife to burn her teen daughter after the girl resisted her parents’ wishes to marry her cousin in an arranged marriage.

In the interview, Walker said the alleged abuse in this case is similar to an honor killing. “The rationale is that you’re shaming your family by getting involved with a boy or a man who is unacceptable for whatever reason. In this particular case, it’s because she was promised to another man and so she talked on the Internet, not even face to face,” said Walker.
