CAHSS Alums Originally from Three Different Countries Form Lasting Friendships

This a tale of three students, each originally from a different country, meeting in a graduate program and becoming not only classmates and colleagues, but also life-long friends.  This is the case for three graduates of the M.S. in Family Therapy program in the Department of Family Therapy (DFT) in NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS). Mariam Mikhael, M.S., came to NSU from Egypt to study family therapy. Claudia Montano, M.S., also came to NSU to study family therapy. Originally, from Ecuador, Montano first earned her bachelor’s degree in the US before entering DFT.  Marveline Pierre, M.S., originally from Haiti came to South Florida as a teenager and later entered the master’s program in DFT.

The three women became close friends and graduated together in 2017. Pierre is working for Multicultural Alliance, doing school-based therapy as she works toward her FL license. Montano is working as part of Henderson’s Family Intervention Team. She plans to return to Ecuador to open a private practice. Mikhael works at a child guidance clinic in Kansas as a Kansas-licensed marriage and family therapist. Recently she was married in Wichita, KS and Pierre and Montano were her bridesmaids. They also stood in for her family back in Egypt who could not be present.
