CAHSS Alum is Director of Air Force Negotiation Center

Thomas-Maytok-Ph_D

Thomas Matyok, Ph.D., graduate of the doctoral program in the Department of Conflict Resolution Studies (DCRS) in NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Studies (CAHSS), is the Director of the Air Force Negotiation Center, Air University and Associate Professor of Conflict Analysis and Resolution at the Air War College.

Matyok served in the US Army for over twenty years, including assignments with the 3rd US Infantry, the 1st Battalion, the 2nd Armored Division, and the 24th Infantry Division. He served in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. He was a member of the Scorpion Infantry Training Team at the National Training Center. Matyok is the former director of the International Seafarer’s Center in Brunswick, GA. He was a Fulbright Scholar in Konstanz, Germany where he studied citizen diplomacy regarding international graduate student exchanges.

Matyok was a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the US Army War College and a Visiting Research Professor at the U.S. Army Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute located in the War College. He was the Director of Graduate Studies and then Chair of the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). He is the author or co-editor of multiple books, book chapters, and articles on various aspects of conflict analysis and resolution, including human security and the role of religion in conflict and peace building. Matyok’s research includes conflict resolution in military education.
