CAHSS Alum is a Broward County Freedom Fellow
Cindy Mahendar, M.S., graduate of the master’s program in Conflict Analysis and Resolution, in the Department of Conflict Resolution Studies (DCRS) in NSU’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS), is a Broward County Freedom Fellow. This fellowship is a collaboration between social justice organizations Dream Defenders, the Florida Immigrant Coalition and Florida Student Power. As a Freedom Fellow, Mahendar is an issue-based organizer, working across Broward County to help pass Amendment 4 in November, which would restore voting rights for 1.4 million people with prior felony convictions across the state of Florida. “Through this work, I see conflict resolution occurring through the power in numbers, using political education and community engagement to resolve conflict within communities and/or conflict faced by certain groups of people,” Mahendar indicated. She also hopes to continue using conflict resolution on a path with Dream Defenders and other organizations to develop and practice restorative and transformative justice processes in Broward County and across the state of Florida.
