Bernadette Bruce Named Director, Office of Publications and Creative Services

Bernadette Bruce as director, Office of Publications and Creative Services

Nova Southeastern University has selected Bernadette Bruce as director, Office of Publications and Creative Services. Marc Crocquet, vice president for the Division of Business Services announced the appointment on July 2.

Bruce has a 24-year track record of leading communications initiatives for corporations and nonprofit organizations. As NSU’s first director of advancement communications, she worked with stakeholders in all of the university’s colleges and centers to provide strategic and creative counsel for Realizing Potential and other brand awareness and philanthropic efforts.

“I know that Bernadette will lead the Publications department to expand its delivery of innovative and creative communication solutions that produce tangible outcomes for the entire university,” Crocquet said.

Bruce replaces Ron Ryan, who recently retired after 24 years at the university. She will lead the experienced team that provides the NSU community with a multitude of creative services.  Its award-winning work has been honored by the Society of Professional Journalist, Admissions: The National Newspaper of Admissions Marketing, and National Gold Ink Awards, to name just a few.

“I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve our NSU Shark family in this new capacity,” Bruce said. “Publications puts out an average of about 1,000 jobs a year, including magazines, handbooks, brochures, ads, programs, invitations, the NSU Annual Report, First Look, and other informational and marketing pieces. Together we can continue to elevate awareness, affinity, perceptions, and support for NSU.”

Bruce worked with Public Relations and Marketing Communications as well as Advancement and Community Relations for the past four years, and NSU University School before that, while pursuing her master’s degree. Her prior work experience includes branding, advertising, marketing, creative direction, investor relations, public relations, project management, social media, and special events. Previous employers and clients include the Silver Companies, the Smithsonian Institution, Gibson Guitars, City of Memphis, Memphis City Schools, B.B. King’s Blues Clubs, and Great Western Consumer Finance Group.

She also has led creative teams through her volunteer work. Bruce’s most recent project was a permanent sculpture along the Riverwalk in Downtown Fort Lauderdale to commemorate 80 years of impact by Junior League of Greater Fort Lauderdale.

A member of Leadership Broward XXXIII, Bruce was named a Top 40 under 40 by Memphis Business Journal in 2003. She is a founding member of NSU’s 1964 Society for legacy giving and a Changing Lives Scholarship benefactor.

Bruce earned a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from University of Memphis, an M.B.A. in Leadership from NSU, and certificates in Human Relations Management and Workforce Management and Development from Michigan State University.

NSU’s Division of Business Services supports the university’s mission by providing a variety of services to NSU students, faculty and staff members, alumni, and guests. Business Services is composed of the Miniaci Performing Arts Center, the Rick Case Arena at the Don Taft University Center, the NSU Bookstore, Shark Dining, Copy Services, Mail Services, Procurement Services, Publications and Creative Services, Records Management, Travel Services, and Vending Services.
