Author Series Featuring Discussions on Conspiracy, Survival and Hope Begins Sept. 25 at Alvin Sherman Library

Ft. Lauderdale-Davie, Fla. — The Circle of Friends of the Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center at Nova Southeastern University announced today its 2008 Author Series, Moving Forward from Darkness to Light.  Presenting authors will be Edwin Black, Margaret Ahnert and Irene Zisblatt. The Series, which is free and open to the public, begins Sept. 25 and concludes Nov. 18.

“These authors will lead thought-provoking discussions as they present unique stories of conspiracy, survival and hope,” said Lydia Acosta, NSU vice president for information services and university librarian. “They will cover historical events from which lessons are still being learned and it’s important to have a forum to share their compelling experiences.”

The author discussions and book signings begin at 6:15 p.m. at the Alvin Sherman Library on the following dates:

Sept. 25. – Award-winning author Edwin Black, well known for his bestseller IBM and the Holocaust, will launch his latest controversial book, The Plan: How to Rescue Society When the Oil Stops – or the Day Before.   Black is the author of 58 bestselling works in 14 languages in 61 countries, as well as scores of newspaper and magazine articles in the leading publications of the United States, Europe, and Israel.  He is also the editor of The Cutting Edge News, an online newspaper that receives more than one million visits each month.

Oct. 16 – Margaret Ahnert, author of The Knock at the Door: A Journey through the Darkness of the Armenian Genocide, goes beyond the statistics as she tells the compelling story of her mother’s traumatic battle to survive as a young girl coming of age in this period of brutality and hatred.  This intimate mother-daughter story has been honored by USA News as the Best Book of 2007 in the World History category, as well as by the New York Book Festival Award Committee as Best Historical Memoir.

Nov. 18. – Holocaust survivor and author of The Fifth Diamond: The Story of Irene Weisberg Zisblatt, Irene Zisblatt discusses her book and Steven Spielberg’s award winning Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation documentary, The Last Days, in which she appears.  Zisblatt shares her story of finding hope, love, and courage despite incredible odds during World War II as a concentration camp prisoner in Poland.  The Fifth Diamond, released in February 2008, is already required reading for Holocaust studies in many schools and has been nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.

Partial funding for the 2008 Author Series has been provided through the generous support of Jon A. Kotler, M.D., and Anita Paoli Kotler, Adolfo and Marisela Cotilla and Southern Wine & Spirits of South Florida.  For additional information about the series visit http://www.nova.edu/library/main/.
