Attend Dramatic Reading of Irish Playwright’s The Chastitute, April 2

ChastituteThe Farquhar College of Arts and Sciences welcomes the NSU community to a dramatic reading of the stage comedy The Chastitute. Produced by the Irish Theatre of Florida, the production is directed by college alumna Liza Mascaro (2008, B.A. in Theatre) and features actor James Doan, Ph.D., professor at the college.

The Chastitute

Thursday, April 2

8:00–10:00 p.m.

Mailman-Hollywood Building | Auditorium, Second Floor

Written by Irish playwright John B. Keane, The Chastitute is set in rural Ireland in the 1970s at a time when society was changing rapidly. A bachelor farmer is searching for a “plain, decent woman” to share his life. He’s a “chastitute” or “a person without Holy Orders who has never lain down with a woman—a rustic celibate by force of circumstance.” The story follows the trials and tribulations the farmer endures in his pursuit to find a woman. Audiences will appreciate the comedy yet be moved by the unbearable solitude of a life without love and companionship.

The dramatic reading is free of charge. Those interested in attending should contact James Doan at (954) 262-8207 or doan@nova.edu by March 31.
