Argentine Film Series Coming to NSU in October

Ft. Lauderdale -Davie, Fla. — CINE Argentino, an Argentinean film series, is coming to Nova Southeastern University (NSU) with screenings each Sunday in October. All four films are free and open to the public and will be held in the auditorium of the Carl DeSantis Building on NSU’s main campus at 3301 College Ave.

Argentinean actress and journalist Adriana Bianco will provide commentary at the first screening on Oct. 5. The series is being presented by the Alvin Sherman Library at NSU, South Regional BCC Library, and the Argentinean Consulate in Miami as part of Hispanic Heritage Month. The film series will be as follows:

Camila: Sunday, Oct. 5, 2 p.m.
The first Latin American woman director depicts the real story of a young woman in the 19th century colonial period. This true story received an Oscar in Hollywood. Starring Hector Alterio. English subtitles. Directed by María Luisa Bemberg.

Juan Manuel De Rosas: Sunday, Oct. 12, 2 p.m.
Juan Manuel de Rosas (1793-1877) was an Argentine caudillo who ruled Argentina from 1829-1852. He achieved a modicum of national unity that strengthened currents of Argentine nationalism for the future. Starring Rodolfo Bebán. Directed by Manuel Antín.

Made In Argentina: Sunday, Oct. 19, 2 p.m.
A drama/comedy dealing with the theme and experience of exile. A couple from Argentina move to New York City for political reasons, but later wish to return to their home. Starring Beto Brandoni and Martha Bianchi. Directed by Juan José Jusid.

Darse Cuenta (Becoming Aware): Sunday, Oct.  26, 2 p.m.
Psychological comedy about a young doctor, his life and his problems as he tries to save the life of a young man so badly hurt that the other doctors gave him up for dead. Starring Beto Brandoni and Uruguayan actress China Zorilla. English subtitles. Directed by Alejandro Doria.
